UPCOMING WORK
Location: Intersection of Baker Street and Airway Avenue
Now that new pipelines have been constructed, the street will be restored by paving the intersection. Work is taking place on the weekend to minimize disruption.
- When: Saturday, January 31*
- Hours: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.*
- What to Expect:
- Anticipate lane closures and restrictions through the intersection and plan to take alternate routes
- Entrance to Lyon Air Museum will be maintained
Location: Airport Loop Drive and Airway Avenue (between Paularino Avenue and Airport Loop Drive)
Street restoration will occur by first grinding the top surface followed by paving. Please note that the entire street will not be paved, and only sections that were disturbed during construction.
- When: Week of February 2*. Saturday work may occur.
- Hours: Monday – Saturday; 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.*
- What to Expect:
- K-rail will be removed the week prior to scheduled paving
- Temporary traffic control while work is performed
- Increase in activity and noise levels
CURRENT WORK
LOCATION: Airway Avenue and Airport Loop Drive, Costa Mesa
- What: Crews are removing temporary shoring, filling in excavations, and installing covers on access pits located every few hundred feet apart.
- When: Ongoing – February 2026*
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday; 7 a.m. – 4 p.m., some activities may require work outside normal working hours.
- What to Expect:
- At least one travel lane in each direction.
- Increase in activity and noise levels

Two new pipelines installed on Airway Avenue.
LOCATION: Main Street Pump Station, 1499 Main St., Irvine
- What: Rehabilitating and constructing pipelines, pumps, and valves
- When: Ongoing – Spring 2026*
- Work Hours: Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 4 p.m.
- What to Expect:
- Occasional reduced travel lanes on westbound Main St.
- Increase in activity and noise levels

Project Description
This project will rehabilitate two parallel regional sewer pipelines, along a 1-mile stretch on Airway Avenue and Airport Loop Drive in the City of Costa Mesa, near the John Wayne Airport. The rehabilitation of the two pipelines must occur one at a time and will take place in separate phases.
Project elements also include improvements at the Main Street Pump Station. See map below (blue line).
